The lifestyle medicine approach  we use should not  clash with treatment and management you have received  from the NHS. Instead it focuses on lifestyle change accepted to be beneficial and assists in it's implementation with a personalised plan and support. Although we will not prescribe medicine for you, if we feel that you would benefit from discussing medication with your GP or another specialist we will of course discuss this with you.

Dates and locations will be posted here. The walks will generally be on good ground and we will arrange some wheelchair/buggy friendly routes  through the year.

Who is it for?

Most people are suitable to go for a gentle walk. We aim to help those with health concerns enjoy getting out and the routes are generally gentle. 

We recommend that anyone interested in going on a walk registers first so that we can send you some  advice about walking. If you have symptoms when you walk please contact us first to check if you are suitable.

We will give everyone a safety brief at the start of the walk.

Children under 18 need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Friendly dogs are welcome but MUST be on a lead at all times.

What equipment do I need?

You really just need some sensible shoes (ideally walking boots or walking shoes) or wellies, a coat and some water. We will bring the map!

What about the weather?

We try to do the  walk come run or shine but if the weather is considered dangerous we may have to call the walk off. We will always  try to make a timely decision so please check website and emails before setting off.

Nervous?

Don't be. We understand that many people are nervous about doing something new - that's why we do this. We want you to enjoy walking so we will be delighted to see you. All shapes, sizes, abilities, levels of anxiety and confidence are extremely welcome. Please give it a go!

What's the talk bit about?

The talk will be brief and not a lecture or a telling off! It will be a lighthearted chat about an aspect of lifestyle medicine lasting about 5-10 minutes.

Can I discuss my health during the walk?

We can talk about general health issues but  individual, specific health issues should still be discussed with your own GP as normal. 

Will you do a hard sell and try to get me to sign up to LifestyleDoc?

No! You are welcome to take home a leaflet or ask about other LifestyleDoc services but the event is about encouraging people to walk not to do a hard sell.

 

What walking experience have you got?

I have always loved walking and have been walking the Cornish coast path since I was a toddler. I am proud of the amazing Cornish scenery and heritage on our doorstep and want everyone to make the most of it. Outside of Cornwall, I have arranged  wild camping treks in the UK and Pyrenees, and completed the novel 4 peak challenge that involves climbing Ben Nevis, Snowdon, Sca Fell Pike and Brown Willy (I want to put Cornwall on the map!) travelling between the summits by train.
